DAY 2: A Peaceful Forestry Walk to Resourie Bothy

We started day two of our journey by driving from the Bonawe car park and driving North. We headed towards Appin where we stopped at the Castle Stalker View Cafe and Giftshop which was a beautiful little place with gorgeous views of Castle Stalker and Loch Linnhe. It also served a variety of hot and cold food as well as yummy cakes and hot or cold drinks.

It was a great place to stop, stretch our legs and take in the beautiful views of the castle and the loch.

We finished our hot drinks and cakes and made our way further North to Ballachulish then across the very short, but interesting Corran Ferry.

We continued our journey to Strontian and then along a lengthy single track road. We shortly arrived at Glen Hurich where we parked the car, sorted our kit and started the short but pleasant walk up a forestry track and veered off to the right through deeper woodland, this was a narrow footpath and we had to cross a small stream. It was so peaceful. The atmosphere was a bit damp, but it wasn't raining yet...

We finally arrived at Resourie Bothy!

Resourie Bothy is owned and maintained by the MBA. It has three rooms, two fireplaces and can sleep up to ten people.

We arrived approximately 1430 hours, so we put our gear in the bothy and began collecting firewood. There was an abundance of branches and twigs lying on the forest ground and there is even a working wheelbarrow which has, at some point been left behind and came in handy to transport the firewood to the bothy.

After collecting enough firewood to do us and leftovers for the next guests, we decided to take a wander around the bothy grounds.

We came across a lot of old moss covered trees that looked very interesting. We finished our exploring and headed in doors, just as the rain was starting.

We got the fire on, and of course, a cup of tea!...

The night came in pretty quick, so we got the candles on and it was soon time for dinner. For our dinner in Resourie, we threw together a few ingredients and made a vegetable curry, which turned out to be absolutely beautiful, it definitely warmed the tummy!

We relaxed for the night, I chose to read a book by the warm fire, and dad did some note-taking for his videos. I slept well, and kept warm most of the night.

We got up, and ready, and got some water boiling for a morning coffee.

It was a beautiful morning, the sun was out and the birds were chirping so I sat outside with my coffee, which was so peaceful.

We packed up, cleaned up Resourie Bothy and left no trace. We made our way back through the forest track, which was a very peaceful walk. The sun was shining down through the trees, and the birds were very chirpy, so we took our time going through the forest.

We made our way along the forestry path and back to the car. I really enjoyed our stay at Resourie Bothy, it was very different to other bothies, not only was it well looked after, it gave a real sense of peace and quiet. There's something special about a forestry bothy.

Thanks for reading this post on our stay at Resourie Bothy, I hope you enjoyed reading it and have maybe been inspired to visit for yourself.
